Business Resource Network (BRN)

http://www.thebrn.net/Home.aspx     9 W. Front Street Youngstown, Ohio 44503.  Phone:  877 3 BIZNET (877/324-9638).  The BRN says that their purpose is to:  "Help businesses identify, understand and access the services they need – loans, grants and tax incentives, technical and worker training, market development, government problem-solving, etc. – with as little red tape, hassle and bureaucracy as possible."  A collaboration of chambers of commerce, workforce and economic development organizations, universities and career & technical centers, and state and local government agencies, the BRN partnership strategically targets businesses with growth potential as well as those facing challenges, and then conducts extensive interviews with leaders of those businesses.   After learning a business’s challenges and goals, BRN Partners present that business leader with a package of possible incentives, technical assistance, training and other programs designed specifically to best help that business survive and grow. This all happens through a single primary point of contact – the Account Executive – to assure tight coordination of services and minimal bureaucracy.   Once the business leader chooses the programs and services he or she wants to pursue, the BRN Account Executive continues to work with the business leader and participating BRN Partners over time to deliver quality services and identify new ways to assist the business.
While it seems unlikely that a very small (micro-enterprise) business would be targeted for assistance by the BRN, the collaboration could very well be useful in identifying other resources and suggesting funding or other strategies for very small businesses.
